Why 31-gauge × 5/16"?
31-gauge is the thinnest standard insulin needle widely available — finer than 29G or 30G — which translates to noticeably less sensation at the injection site. The 5/16" (8 mm) length is shorter than the standard 1/2" needle, well-suited for shallow subcutaneous injections in lean tissue or when pinching a skin fold. Easy Touch syringes use surgical-steel, electro-polished tri-bevel needles for the smoothest entry possible at this gauge.
When to choose 31G vs 29G
31G is gentler on the user but slightly slower to draw and a bit more delicate when piercing the rubber septum of a peptide vial. Choose 31G if injection sensation is your top priority. Choose 29G if you want a faster draw, sturdier needle, or are working with a vial that has a tougher septum. Many users keep both: 29G for drawing, 31G for actual injection.
